Samera is a UK firm of specialist dental accountants, finance brokers and business advisors. Founded in 2002, we have spent the last 20+ years working almost exclusively with dentists and healthcare professionals – from associates filing their first set of self-employed accounts to dental groups raising eight-figure acquisition finance.
We sit at the intersection of three things most professional firms keep separate: regulated financial services (we are FCA authorised and ICAEW accredited), specialist sector knowledge (we work only in healthcare and specialise in dentistry), and real operational experience (we own a two-site dental group ourselves). The Mehra family founded both Samera and The Neem Tree Dental Group, and that overlap is the single biggest thing that makes our advice different from a generalist accountant or broker.
We are not a generalist firm with a "dental desk". Dentistry is what we do. Every adviser, every product, every piece of guidance on this site is built for the specific commercial, regulatory and tax reality of running a UK dental business.
Samera was founded in 2002 by Arun Mehra FCA, a chartered accountant with senior prior roles in investment banking, and Dr Smita Mehra BDS, a practising dentist. Most business advisors to dentists have no first-hand clinical or operational experience of running a practice. The Mehras built Samera to change that.
In 2004, Smita opened The Neem Tree Dental Practice in Wandsworth, South West London – the first of two clinical sites that now make up The Neem Tree Dental Group (Wandsworth and Esher). The Neem Tree is owned and operated by the same family that runs Samera, and the lessons learned running those two practices – on cash flow, on supplier negotiation, on hiring associates, on regulatory compliance, on starting squat practice, on selling and acquiring – feed directly into the advice Samera gives clients.
"We started Samera because dentists were getting business advice from people who had never run a dental business. Twenty-plus years later, that gap is still our biggest source of advantage. When we tell a client what we think they should do, we are usually telling them something we have already done ourselves."
Where money is involved, claims need to be verifiable. Every body Samera operates under is regulated and on the public record. The corporate structure is broken into separate legal entities by function, each with its own Companies House registration and, where required, its own regulatory authorisation.
Samera Finance Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Firm Reference Number 757431. This is the regulatory permission that allows us to act as a commercial finance broker.
Samera is an ICAEW-accredited firm of chartered accountants. Arun Mehra is a Fellow of the ICAEW (FCA) – the senior grade of membership awarded for sustained contribution to the profession.
Samera Finance Ltd is a member of the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers, the UK trade body for whole-of-market commercial finance brokers.
Samera is a registered Xero Partner, working with Xero as the primary cloud accounting platform for dental practice clients across associate, practice owner and group engagements.
