The Arun & Chris Show: Live & Uncut

A dental financier and a dental business coach, in one room.

The conversations UK practice owners actually need.

A monthly live broadcast where a dental financier and a dental business coach combine what they each see in UK practices, and have the conversations the rest of the dental press is too polished to attempt.

In partnership with The Campbell Academy

Why we built this

UK dental practice owners get plenty of advice. They rarely get it from both sides of the desk at once.

Most operational coaches don't talk fluently about EBITDA multiples, interest-rate exposure, or what a group buyer will actually pay this year. Most financiers don't sit with owners on a Tuesday morning watching the diary, the team, and the patient journey unravel in real time.

This show exists because the most valuable conversations in dentistry happen at the intersection of those two views, and almost nobody is having them in public.

Chris brings

What he sees in the operations: where margin is leaking, where teams are quietly failing, where owners are working harder for less.

Arun brings

What he sees in the numbers: how practices are being valued, what the buyer pool is doing, where the financing reality is biting.

Where they agree, owners get conviction. Where they disagree, owners get something rarer still: a real argument, on air, between two people who actually know what they're talking about.

The six pain points

Each session is anchored to a specific, identifiable problem facing UK dental practices right now. Name the problem clearly. Then deliver practical, dual-perspective solutions.

EP 01

Financial Control & Pricing

Why owners are quietly going backwards

Why fees haven't kept up with costs, what's really stopping owners from raising them, and the three numbers every principal should be watching every month.

  • What's the psychological block on putting prices up? Is it the patients, or something deeper about self-worth?
  • How do you actually benchmark where your fees should be in 2026?
  • If a practice put its prices up tomorrow, how many patients would really leave?
EP 02

Demand Generation

The white space problem nobody wants to talk about

Why UK dental diaries have so much room in them, and why throwing more money at Google Ads won't fix it.

  • Is it a demand problem, a conversion problem, or a marketing problem?
  • Where are treatment decisions actually being lost: the consultation, the follow-up, the fee presentation?
  • Reactivation vs acquisition: where should new patient flow really be coming from?
EP 03

Treatment Conversion & the AI Patient Journey

Where AI earns its keep, and where it's still noise

Reception, TCOs, diagnostics, treatment-plan preparation. The tools are arriving fast. The question is which ones are worth your time.

  • What does an AI-supported TCO role actually look like? Replacing the human, or making them ten times more effective?
  • Does the patient trust an AI-annotated X-ray more or less than the dentist's word?
  • One AI tool, six months, biggest return: where would it go?
EP 04

Operations Cost Shock

The brutal arithmetic most owners haven't faced

Operating costs per surgery per day have doubled in four years. Fees haven't followed. Time to sit down and do the maths.

  • How many owners are working harder than ever for less real profit than they made pre-pandemic?
  • The difference between a cost problem and a pricing problem, and how to tell which one you've got.
  • Why owners cut marketing and CPD before they raise prices, and what that choice costs over five years.
EP 05

Workforce Resilience

Burnout, behaviour, and the conversations owners keep avoiding

The hard chats. The long-serving team member who's quietly disengaged. The brilliant clinician who's also toxic. The clinicians cutting days down: wellbeing win, or a signal something's broken in the business model?

  • How much of the workforce problem is post-COVID burnout, and how much is something deeper the pandemic just exposed?
  • How do you balance pay, flexibility, and progression when you genuinely can't offer what a competitor can?
  • What does avoidance actually cost a practice?
EP 06

Leadership & Technology Paralysis

When too many choices become no choice

PMS, CRM, AI reception, scanners, software. Why so many owners can't pull the trigger on anything, and what the underlying leadership gap really is.

  • What's the honest total cost of a PMS migration, financially, operationally, and in team morale?
  • How should an owner sequence three years of tech investment instead of buying reactively?
  • If you're stuck right now, what are the first three decisions to make this week, and which ones should you deliberately defer?

The Valuation Reckoning

The most contested terrain in UK dental right now: group valuations, DSO dynamics, and what practices are actually worth in today's interest-rate environment.

The assumption of ever-rising multiples is unsustainable. Groups that bought on optimistic projections are facing a looming reckoning, and independent owners thinking about a sale need to understand what buyers will actually pay, not what brokers tell them they might.

This is the conversation almost no one in the dental press is willing to have plainly. Arun will lead it.

Meet your hosts

Chris
Dental Business Coach

Chris Barrow

Director of Business Education at The Campbell Academy

Chris works hands-on with independent dental practice owners across the UK, and that client base is the data source: operating costs per surgery per day have doubled in four years. He brings the operational lens: what's actually happening on the ground, and what owners can do about it.

Arun
Dental Financier

Arun Mehra

CEO at Samera

Arun brings the financier's view of UK dentistry: practice valuations, group dynamics, EBITDA multiples, and the current interest-rate reality. He's the voice asking whether the numbers stack up, and what sellers, buyers, and operators should be doing differently right now.

Who it's for

  • Practice principals and owners
  • Group operators and clinical directors
  • Anyone weighing a sale, an acquisition, or a serious operational reset
  • Anyone making the hard calls on price, people, and technology in UK dentistry right now
