Hi there,

Time: 18:00 - 21:00
Location: Central London (venue shared when you book)
Tickets: £75 (drinks and nibbles included)
For: Practice owners and principals only

I'm an accountant, so forgive me for getting excited about numbers. Here's one worth getting excited about.

£300,000 or more in EBITDA. That's what a well built associate led practice can produce without the principal treating a single patient.

(EBITDA, for the uninitiated, is accountant speak for "what the business actually earns before we start arguing about tax and loans.")

I'm not sharing that figure to show off. I'm sharing it because it's the target the whole structure is designed around. Most owners have simply never seen that structure written down.

Over the years I've read a lot of practice accounts, and the same story keeps turning up. Turnover looks brilliant. The owner looks exhausted. The profit looks... disappointing.

Why? Usually a mix of three things:

  • The wrong numbers get watched. Some figures look lovely on paper and tell you almost nothing. Turnover is the classic show off.

  • Money slips out quietly. Not through one dramatic hole, but a dozen small leaks nobody has time to find.

  • Value gets ignored until it's too late. Owners think about what makes a practice sellable the week they decide to sell. That's roughly ten years too late.

At Owner, Not Operator on Wednesday 14 October, Smita and I will go through the handful of figures that show a practice is genuinely healthy, where the profit tends to escape, and what makes a practice attractive to a buyer, whether you sell soon or in a decade.

You'll leave with things to fix the following Monday, not a vague feeling of inspiration that fades by Thursday.

It's 6pm to 9pm in Central London, drinks and nibbles included, owners and principals only.

Speak soon,

Arun

PS If exit is on your mind, have a look at how we approach practice valuations. The first call is free, and it's a useful reality check before the evening.
